The Rebel “Jeber” is another cool concept from the folks at Rebel. They design and build a limited number from each of their unique prototypes every year and when they are gone, they’re gone. I was lucky enough to snag one of these from The Ukulele Site a few years back.
Many of Rebel’s limited series ukuleles get copied or “faked” as Rebel Ukes. They decided to fake their own design with the “Original JEBER.” That’s Rebel spelled backwards and mirrored. They are riffing on an older model of theirs called the “Particle” Tenor and taking it to another level.
I believe only ten of these were made. It features a split theme. The top is yellow cedar and red cedar. The fingerboard is split with half ebony and half padauk. Even the Gotoh tuning pegs are different colors; gold and black. They even flipped the label inside to read “JEBER.”
The back is ebony with an interesting knot on the lower bout, and the sides are paduak.
The black pickguard is another playful touch. All around it’s so cool, I had to get it.
It’s a Tenor scale and The Ukulele site switched out the cheap gig bag it usually comes in for a solid case. That’s the only drawback with Rebel instruments, they don’t put them in sturdy cases.
